For a real taste of history we encourage visitors to head over to the Fort Langley National Historic Site. Fort Langley, located less than a half hour from the inn, is a former trading post of the Hudson’s Bay Company. It is commonly referred to as “the birthplace of British Columbia” and is designated as a National Historic Site of Canada. Fort Langley is the exact location where, a century and a half ago the Hudson’s Bay Company established a small post to trade with the First Nations of the West Coast. The trading continued and the fort grew, leading to the creation of the colony of British Columbia.
Exploring this 1800s fur trade post is very exciting, and is like stepping back in time. It’s truly amazing to see what it was like to be there in the 1800s. Visit with costumed interpreters, watch blacksmithing & barrel-making demonstrations explore. See where First Nations people traded salmon, furs and Cranberries for Hudson’s Bay Company goods, and see where British Columbia was proclaimed a colony.
